Do employers treat online degrees the same as traditional degrees?

By: Meg Dilts

It is now much easier to earn your college degrees online than it was 10 or 15 years ago. Many employers are also treating online degrees the same as traditional degrees.

Online degrees have given many adults more opportunities who otherwise would not have the time and resources to finish their college degrees. The notable advantages of online degrees are the convenience, costs, and flexibility. However, before you start your 4-year program, you need to do your homework to find out the right school and right program for you.

Not all online degrees are the same in terms of costs and value. Some online degrees are purely online, the school does not have a campus and while others are traditional colleges that also offer online programs. Even through there are very good purely online schools, you should be very careful.

Choosing a distance program from a reputable and traditional college or university is a far safer and wiser option. Since your diploma will not specify whether it was online or on campus, the employers will treat them just the same as traditional degrees. Be sure to do your homework before start any program.
